Online Advertising and ROI

As per Marketingsherpa article I am making few notes for what ads works and how to improve ROI. (Presentation for the year 2008).

- Online advertising is notices for 3 1/2 of 100 people comes to site

- Small targets and big budget or big targets and small budget which is important in online advertising? It depends on profit margins if you have a huge target but your profit margin is less than it does not make sense to spend money. vice- versa.

- Get the attention from viewers by your advertisement is essential and say your message and what you have to say and other things like frequency and repetition will help you out for your creative online advertising.

- If you going to do display advertising then focus on branding. let educate by giving information and when people understand then they will definitely click your ad and then conversation.

- Video advertising works better at communication because when you add more communication power in to ad unit then it just make.

- Behavioral targeting and contextual advertising are best ways to achieve great ROI because for that you are reaching to specific audiences and you are serving your ads to niche groups. for marketing perspective if consumer is not considering the product then you are wasting your impressions.

- Ads which appears on first scroll could produce better results then the second scroll or at the bottom of the site also fewer ads in the site would get more eyeballs.

- E-commerce guys can do branding from Monday to Friday and for Saturday and Sunday they could give discounts to increase the sales.

- If you are doing display advertising then it might be possible that consumers would not click your ad but could search your products in search engines or ask a friend via email.

Behavioral Targeting Advertising

I was found a good article for online marketing trends. Recently released study from Marketingsherpa shows Behavioral Targeting is finally making inroads generating next best results in terms of Return on Investment to contextual advertising.

Behavioral targeting uses information collected on an individual's web-browsing behavior, such as the pages they have visited or the searches they have made (which is found using tracking cookies) to select which advertisements to display to that individual.

The Three kinds of Behavioral Targeting as below

1. Based on website/web page visited.
This type of Behavioral Targeting develops behavioral segments by finding users who have gone to specific web sites that have very targeted content. For example students who frequent Job websites like Naukri or Monster would become part of the “Job Seekers” segment.
Then, these users are re-targeted when they are found on other more general content type sites.

2. Based on keyword searched or content that was read.
This type of Behavioral Targeting develops behavioral segments by finding users who have searched for product using specific keywords.

3. Based on past visitors to your website.
This type of Behavioral Targeting creates behavioral segments of users who have visited the web site and monitors visitor response to site content and conversion.
